A growing number or women nave been moving into senior roles over the past three years, according to the Grant Thornton "International Business Report" (IBR).

However, progress in the number of women being appointed to senior roles is slower in the G7 group of developed economies (US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, and Japan), where economic performances have been faltering, than in the high-growth economies of Asia.

The IBR data revealed that globally, 24 per cent of senior management roles are now filled by women. This is up from 21 per cent in 2012 and 20 per cent in 2011. However, the G7 economies come bottom of the league table, with just 21 per cent of senior roles occupied by women.
