The impact of values and integrity on business performance was the topic of two CLMA/Tomorrow's Company lectures in London recently.

Speaking the CIMA/Tomorrow's Company annual parliamentary reception at the House of Lords, Marks & Spencer chairman' Robert Swannell set out how businesses must act with integrity to ensure, success in the long term.

Addressing an audience of around 150 business leaclers, he said the importance of ethical behaviour was heightened at present due to declining trust in the financial and olitica1 world and a toxic debt of $220tm held US banks.

Swarmell explained that his own organisation's Clear stance-on "deeper values, integrity, sustainability in business and 'doing the right thing" is. helping it recruit and retain "the very best' talent", and he called for all organisations to pay more attention to corporate culture as they seeks to repair the damage from the financial crtsis.
