As financial controller I've been asked to sign off the year-end accounts for the company that I have recently joined. The accounts include a clause that is incorrect. Having investigated the matter I recognise that this is a genuine oversight and not a deliberate attempt to mislead. The managing director does not want to produce new accounts, because of resource implications, but she does not feel it appropriate that she signs off something that has an error in it.

Our response:

In respect of a genuine oversight, be it yours or a colleague's, the Code recognises that this can happen as long as the issue is promptly addressed and safeguards put in place (see section 100.10).
