Hope that big international companies may start to pay indigenous communities for the right to use localised plants for drugs and cosmetics has been sparked at a global environmental conference at The Hague, Netherlands.

Some 166 countries signed global guidelines that will nudge international corporates into dealing with countries and communities whose genetic resources are used.
