I arrived in this role after holding jobs at several Dublin-based financial services firms, including those of chief economist and head of research at Dolmen Stockbrokers, head of interest rate and forex sales at KBC Bank and senior dealer at Bank of Scotland, having gained degrees at Dublin City University and the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.

I joined the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) in 2011 when it was looking to increase its effectiveness in Europe by getting involved in developing the legislative framework for European financial services. This was in BEM recognition that that the Republic of Ireland remains an important financial centre, despite the financial crisis. reputation internationally by building and maintaining relationships with other regulatory authorities in Europe and beyond.

As Ireland prepared to assume the presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of last year, my job also required me to work with the Department of Finance. During that period I was heavily involved in reshaping the EU directive on markets in financial instruments, which had originally been implemented in 2007. This law provides harmonised regulation for investment services across the European Economic Area.
