I notice that the illustration by John Holder on "Scupper club" (April, page 20) is based on a painting in the Louvre called "The raft of the Medusa". The Medusa was a French frigate that foundered off the coast of Mauritania in 1816. The crew took to the raft and almost all of them perished, tragically unaware that they were in very shallow water.
