The South African government has blown the time-out whistle on the much vaunted sale of prime state assets. Telecommunications provider Telkom is delaying its promised 2001 listing because of 'weak market conditions'. It's now looking at a February 2002 restart. It says the delay will also give it time to launch an awareness campaign to encourage retail investors, and create a regulatory framework for fixed line competition.
