French aircraft manufacturer Airbus Industrie, with orders and commitments for 671 aircraft -- valued at more than $44 billion -- excluding options, has declared 1997 a record year. "The way in which our product family, our strategy and our people have been able to take advantage of the upturn in the market has been outstanding," said Jean Pierson, the firm's managing director.
