The UK Lesbian and Gay Immigration Group (UKLGIG) is a unique human rights charity at the forefront of the campaign to protect LGBTI refugees. It is the only national organisation in the UK dedicated to supporting, and advocating for the rights of, LGBTI people fleeing persecution.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex (LGBTI) people across the world experience discrimination and violence on a daily basis on account of their sexuality or gender identity. At least 77 countries, including many in the Commonwealth, criminalise same-sex acts and homosexuality. The UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki Moon, has described this as 'one of the great, neglected human rights challenges of our time.' Despite this, the needs and experiences of LGBTI refugees are often neglected or ignored.
