The Nigerian government is considering whether to privatise the nation's mint - officially referred to as the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company - despite stiff opposition from the national parliament. Mint chairman, Abubakar Rimi, says he believes that conceding printing of the nation's currency to a foreign company might compromise national security. Joe Anichebe, public affairs director of the public enterprises bureau, dismisses criticism of the proposed privatisation.
