New officers elected at CIMA AGM.

Harry Byrne, the newly elected president of CIMA, focused on accountants in business at the AGM last month, when he set out his priorities for the year ahead. "CIMA's unique business perspective is pivotal to our continued success as the qualification of choice for accountants in business, across public and private sectors," he said. "Our priority over the next 12 months is to continue to develop our range of qualifications and support, to ensure that our members and students continue to add value to the strategic direction of businesses, to the highest professional standards."

At the AGM, the financial accounts for the year ending 31 December 2001 were adopted and, following a lively discussion about the institute's IT system, restructuring and international fees, Sir Andrew Likierman, head of accountancy services at the Treasury and chief government accountant, was awarded the institute medal.
