Nearly half the South Africa population will be hooked up to cellphones in just five years. The phones are euphemistically known as 'audio earrings' because of the propensity of South Africans of all ages to walk around with a phone clutched to an ear. Major supplier Vodacom's CEO, Alan Knott-Craig, says the current usership of about 8m will catapult to well over 20m by 2006.
