Following central bank measures to boost mining earnings and release foreign currency for crucial imports, Zimbabwe's mining industry is on track for recovery. According to Zimbabwe Chamber of Mines chief executive, David Murangari, the industry reacted positively to the reserve bank measures, "especially exploration. We'll start to see fresh gold apart from what is being reported now." Twelve producing gold mines had closed over the past three years amid steep operating costs, delays in payment by the central bank and scarce foreign currency for raw material and maintenance equipment.
