May I say a few words to fellow members of CIMA as I approach my 90th birthday? I was born in 1918. I graduated in commerce 20 years later and ten years after that I became a CIMA student. I then went to Croydon and participated in the then Croydon branch.

I joined Lacey-Hulbert & Co machinery manufacturers in Wallington, Surrey, and introduced standard costing there--an experience that has been valuable ever since. After moving back to Kolkata in 1952, I formed the Students' Society of Cost Accountants with Mr A H Forster FCWA.

In 1983 CIMA's then president, David Allen, attended the Asia-Pacific Accountants' parley in New Delhi, and the following year CIMA was established in Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai and, a little later, Chennai. I became centre correspondent here and five years later was made secretary of the branch.
