Position:Brief Article - Letter to the Editor


When my husband suggested a vacation in Africa, I have to admit that I was not too enthusiastic. We're both of African descent, but neither of us had travelled outside of the Americas before. We did honeymoon in Mexico nearly 30 years ago, but that was the limit of our overseas travelling. Usually we take our vacations in Florida, or the West Coast where we have family to visit.

We got a flight via Chicago to Paris where we spent one night before catching a flight to Dakar. From the moment we stepped off the plane in Senegal we were just amazed at everything we saw and the people we met. They just couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. The hotel was fantastic -- it was comfortable, clean and served wonderful food. We divided our days with golf and shopping, sightseeing and just relaxing around the pool.

We then moved on to Accra, Ghana for our second week in Africa. If anything, that was even more enjoyable because the folks all speak English. The memory of our week in Ghana will also stay with us for ever.

My husband picked up a copy of your magazine from the hotel just before we took our flight home. After he had read it I also took a look, and that's why I am writing. What a neat little...
