Judge wins libel against British author.

John Evans Gicheru, Kenya's most senior Court of Appeal judge, has been awarded libel damages of KShs2.25m against Andrew Morton, the British author of Diana: Her True Story and Moi -- The Making of A Statesman.

Morton had claimed in the Moi biography published in 1998 that Judge Gicheru, as chairman of the commission of inquiry into the disappearance and death of former foreign minister Robert Ouko, had sometimes been entertained in the company of other judges on the commission by Hezekiah Oyugi, a suspect in the Ouko murder case.
