Is the talent pipeline draining growth?

Firms around the world are finding it difficult to manage their talent base in the most effective manner, which is preventing them from undertaking important projects or initiatives, and from innovating and meeting performance and growth targets.

That's the finding of a new CGMA report--"Talent pipeline draining growth: Connecting human capital to the growth agenda"--which reveals that many firms are struggling to effectively fulfil their strategies due to human-capital related issues.

Launched at a panel discussion event in Moscow, at which finance executives from leading Russian companies and multinationals discussed issues of talent management in the Russian market, the report sets out that some of the shortcomings are systemic, or fall out of organisational structures, while other challenges include a lack of leadership in measuring the effectiveness of a firm's human capital strategy.

The report sets out a series of recommendations for business leaders. It says they must:

* Embed human capital strategy within the overall business strategy; develop relevant metrics aligned to support and implement the wider strategy, with measurement and performance management coming under the same level of scrutiny as other...
