CIMA members are being urged to approve the byelaw and regulation changes needed for the institute to introduce mandatory continuing professional development (CPD) from January 2006. The institute says the move will ensure continuing compliance with the International Federation of Accountants' requirements on best practice.

Nigel Race, CIMA's CPD manager, said the institute's approach to CPD is based on principles rather than rules. "This ensures relevance to a membership base with diverse roles and needs," he told FM. "A yes vote from members would pave the way for the introduction of CIMA's new professional development framework in 2006 and would help to support the ever-increasing employability of CIMA members."
