Ian Christison began his career in industry and moved into senior management before taking a career break to achieve an MSc degree in computing. This led to a new career as an academic. Christison started out as a trainee accountant at Sheepbridge, operating blast furnaces and rolling mills in the iron industry. Further moves took him to iron tube and foundry firms and then to the chemical, steel and engineering industries. Having joined senior management, he completed a one-year full-time MSc degree in computing. The degree led to a post at Leicester Business School (De Montfort University).
