Risk advisers have urged UK employers to review their health and safety procedures, risk management practices and insurance cover after the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 received royal assent on July 26.

Nearly all public- and private-sector organisations can now be prosecuted as a corporate body if there is a gross breach of duty of care, arising from a product or service, that causes a death. There is no upper limit on the fines and the offending organisation could have remedial notices imposed on it.
