The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) has for the first time assessed the performance of Global 500 and S&P 500 members in reducing their contribution to climate change, rather than simply reporting the level of their disclosures. Companies achieving the highest scores include Accenture, BASF, Boeing, Nokia, Royal Dutch Shell, Siemens and Swiss Re.

The CDP's report is based on surveys sent to 3,700 of the world's largest companies. Despite the economic crisis, overall disclosure levels have continued to improve and the Global 500 response rate is now 82 per cent (from 77 per cent last year). The number of Asian companies responding has increased by 39 per cent since last year and the response rate from Bric countries has doubled. The CDP is backed by 475 institutional investors...
