More than half (51) of the chief executives in the FTSE 100 have strong financial backgrounds, reflecting the continuing importance of financial acumen to running a business. Of the 11 chief executives appointed by FTSE 100 companies in the past year, seven have financial backgrounds, including Michael Queen of 3i (pictured) and Peter Voser of Royal Dutch Shell. Both were promoted from the role of finance director, according to Robert Half's annual survey of chief executives in the FTSE 100.
