The finance function of the future will be lean and mean, according to Martin Fahy, former director of development, Asia Pacific, at CIMA. The accounting jobs being shifted overseas are the higher-paid ones, not the lower-paid ones he warned. "Don't move a 30,000 [pounds sterling] job. Move a 75,000 [pounds sterling] one if you can find someone to do it for 25,000 [pounds sterling] overseas."

CIMA members aren't being as badly affected by this trend as other accountants, since they are more likely to be involved in analysis than compliance, Fahy said.
