As Ford's director of business strategy for Asia Pacific and Africa (APA) and a member of the company's APA management team, my job, working with other members of the management team, is to map out Ford's strategy for growth in the region. This covers issues like joint venture relationships in China and partnerships elsewhere, as well as how we interact with governments and local authorities. I also help to shape our business structure in the region - where we conduct our manufacturing and how this fits in with our product development activities. In addition, I look after competitor analysis - working to understand and interpret what other automotive companies are doing in the region, why they are doing it and whether Ford needs to respond.

I then draw all of the above together into a coherent business strategy.

Asia is a high-growth region for the automotive industry. As well as India and China, the ASEAN countries - including Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam - are either in the midst of a period of explosive growth or about to move into it. A key part of my role is deploying our resources in an orderly fashion to make the most of this growth.
