Nigerian artist Abolore Sobayo has designed a giant statue called "The Liberation Statue" to commemorate Fela Kuti's contribution to West African music.

Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode unveiled the statue on what would have been Fela's 79th birthday at the Allen roundabout in Ikeja.

The statue forms part of activities marking the 20th anniversary of Fela's death, and portrays an iconic image of Fela, with his hands in the air in a yellow suit.
