Ethiopia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs made an embarrassing mistake when it published a map which saw Somalia swallowed whole by Ethiopia. To add insult to Mogadishu's injury, the map included Somaliland: a self-declared and non-recognised territory which has long sought to break away from Somalia.

The image caused a stir on social media, with some suggesting the blunder was an indication of Ethiopia's plan to annex Somalia.

The two nations have long had a bumpy history, with three wars being fought between 1964 and 1982 and several Ethiopian incursions into Somalia since then, including in 2006 when Ethiopia took sides during a civil war in Somalia.
