CIMA enters merger dialogue; a three-way amalgamation is under consideration.

A national accounting body consisting of more than 200,000 members could be on the cards if merger talks between CIMA, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) are successful.

The three institutes recently began exploratory discussions after identifying similar agendas and complementary strengths. The possible benefits of a combined body could include enhanced overall status for all members, improved support services for members and students, expanded employment opportunities and a more powerful voice for accountancy in national and international discussions with governments, regulatory bodies and standard-setters.
