Three-quarters of change management initiatives fail to achieve their planned objectives in the long term, according to new research, which has cited companies' inability to develop managers into effective change leaders as an important contributory factor.

More than half (55 percent) of employers covered by Towers Watson's 2013 "Change and communication ROI survey" said that their change management initiatives met their initial objectives, but only a quarter said they were able to sustain the gains achieved by such initiatives in the longer term.
