Male and female boardroom directors do not share the same views on senior gender diversity, according to new global research.

The "2012 Board of Directors Survey", published by Heidrick & Struggles and Women Corporate Directors (WCD), reveals almost half (45 per cent) of men believe that the "lack of women in executive ranks" is the primary reason that the number of women on boards is not increasing. The result compares with 18 per cent of women having the same belief. In addition, 51 per cent of women, compared with 25 per cent of men, believe that quotas are an effective tool for increasing diversity in the boardroom.
