Your excellent article (African Business, December 2011 issue, 'Transport and Logistics') states that transport infrastructure is central to the development of African economies. It is a statistic often quoted that road transport costs in Africa are among the highest in the world and in landlocked African countries they account for up to 70% of the value of exports. Reducing our transport costs will make our exporters more competitive in world markets.
