IFAC announced the results of its 2007 global leadership survey during World Accountancy Week in December. Despite the credit crunch, most respondents were optimistic about prospects for 2008 and believed that the labour supply, the growth of SMEs and access to capital were the keys to future economic success. Almost all of them believed that a strong accountancy profession would play a key role in their country's development.

Responses showed some geographical variation. Latin American and Caribbean participants saw tax policy, education and training as vital for growth and listed corruption as the most likely inhibitor of progress...
