The article, "Political will and Leading from the bottom up" (New African, October 2011) which was part of an inspiring Special Report on the progress being made towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals, was interesting but debatable.
It argues that there is a deficit of real leadership in Africa, and that this is getting in the way of development. There may be a deficit in some nations but it cannot be said to be true for the entire continent of 55 states.
That said, when it comes to investments, political leadership is not the main concern, especially of foreign investors. Investors are concerned mainly with the success and profitability of the project.
This is true for all sorts of Sector--real estate, tourism, and manufacturing. The investor's main focus is to pursue a project without hindrances to implementation, including government bureaucracy. Many prospective investors...
